PhotoReading - Day 10 - Protecting Your #1 Asset by Michael Lechter

Day : Day 10

Title : Protecting Your #1 Asset - Michael Lechter

Purpose : This was all fairly straight forward. The purpose for me is getting easier and easier. Although I've had this book on my shelf for a very long time, yet my motivation to go through it wasn't actually that high.

Prepare and Preview: As yesterday my preview yielded that this was again a very US centric book. Therefore the actually information to myself wasn't that relevant.

Thoughts on Process : As I was PhotoReading, I knew this book would be of little benefit to me, other than for definitions and it pays to have very good legal advice in business.

Time Spent activating and how : I spent 20 minutes and went. That's it. That all I really need. It even crossed my mind am I really Super Reading and dipping.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? Definitions, what are IP and patients.

The Future : Find more UK law/business applicable books, certainly if you want more finite detail. Yet 10 days, 10 books. That is a surprise.

Towards The Papterless Office and the A of Automation

All,

In my day to day current job I use Lotus Notes as a email system. Although Lotus Notes is NOT JUST email. A great misconception amongst so many people, especially in IT circles. Anyway, I stumbled upon a new site by Eric Mack this morning. He is a great fan of the GTD philosophy. Although I've looked into GTD in the past and not implemented. Until recently it was always very Outlook Centric. Yet not everybody uses Outlook as an email system. That is all Outlook is, email. Although many will argue it is a PIM system, so it Lotus Notes.

Bygones. Erick Mack for a long time has been applying the GTD philosophy to Lotus Notes. Today he wrote about the paperless office. If only. However it got me thinking about business and and the A of Tim Ferriss acronym DEAL or DELA depending on whether you're an employer or employee. Since I am very keen to look further into this system of work and apply as much as I can. After all, I've begun to get itchy feet again and want to go off travelling. Surely a paperless office would help? After all a business isn't so much about the product or service, it is about the systems. It is often said to many people work in the business not on the business.

As as side note next week I'm off to Dresden next week. I'll still be PhotoReading , although posting may not be every day. Although I'll be finding books to PhotoReading and note. In addition I've already found the 100 Germany words to learn. This is mentioned in Tim Ferriss' book . If you want to find the 100 most common words in some languages, try here for a start, a Tony Buzan book. I will detail how it has all gone in a future post.

PhotoReading - Day 9- Own Your Own Corporation by Garrett Sutton

Day : Day 9

Time : 1645

Location : Office

Trigger Words : 16

Title : Own Your Own Corporation - Garrett Sutton

Purpose : This was done in the office, Although easy enough to get into state. I was on edge as I didn't want to have to explain myself to various people as to what I was doing.

Prepare and Preview: I was able to get into state, as mentioned above, yet after a quick preview I realised I didn't actually really need to have bought this book. It is very US centric and actually quite basic I felt.

Thoughts on Process : The photoreading itself was simple enough although I was interrupted several times by work colleagues and telephone calls. Thankfully getting back into start was fairly easy.

Time Spent activating and how : I spent in total at most 20 minutes on the whole book. Since most of the information is fairly basic and US centric. Not much use to me hear in the UK. I just SuperRead and dipped, yet missed out whole sections of the book as I knew they just where not going to be relevant to myself.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? For me, very little was of any use. The greatest thing I can take is to preview books whilst in a bookstore and then I can decide if I really need them or not.

The Future : Preview, preview, preview. Although it did leave me thinking. If you write a good first or second book. People will buy others, just because you've recommended them and they are part of your family.

PhotoReading - Day 8 - Mars and Venus Together Forever by John Gray

Day : Day 8

Time : 1945

Location : Home

Trigger Words : 16

Title : Mars and Venus Together Forever – John Gray

Purpose : This was for me all about the ultimate application. Once I figured that out, finding information within the book was a doddle. I asked myself several times what is my ultimate application of the book. In addition to what can I apply right now in my life.

Prepare and Preview: Quick, simple and easy. Many of the key points and ideas are already bold typefaced, thus clear and easy. Much of the other text I found to be fluff.

Thoughts on Process : I thought I might have trouble activation the book, since I did have issues photoreading, flipping the pages. They seemed stiffer than even a new book. I did actually say to myself several times, oh this will be difficult to activate. Last night I photoread again the book from yesterday and the above book, with the purpose of dream activation

Time Spent activating and how : About 40 minutes in total. I don’t know if the books where activated via my dreams. Nothing leapt out at me during my dreams as saying, yes, yes, yes. This is due to the book. I think I’m normally pretty good at interpretating my own dreams. I think we all are. If you just stop and think for moment. Every now and then I find dreammoods useful as a guide to the more obscure symbols. I went down the table of contents and choose only those chapters that I thought might help me in my purpose. I mind mapped even less of the book, than I superread.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? : Like most men, I guess I need to listen more to the woman in my life. Although I did feel as though much was a mans’ fault, yet I thought a relationship was a two way thing? Then again my purpose wasn’t what can my woman do my relationships so I get more out of them.

The Future : Relationships are always on going and organic. Anything that will improve relationships has to be a good thing.

PhotoReading - Day 7 - Figuring Out People by Michael Hall & Bob Bodenhammer

Day : Day 7

Time : 2000

Location : Home

Trigger Words : 18

Title : Figuring Out People – Michael Hall & Bob Bodenhammer

Prepare and Preview: The prepare and previewing was actually rather easy despite the book containing many bold typeface, diagrams, beginnings and summaries. More than the others that I’ve read so far.

Thoughts on Process : The whole process is getting easier to go from one step to another. Yet, I’ve reached the stage in the challenge, as in any goal, where motivation is beginning to wane and wander. Yet, actually thanks to having to write a blog entry. I’m “forced” to continue. The blog is an external motivating source, thanks all. This is when I really need to forge ahead and continue

Time Spent activating and how : I spent about an hour and a half, SuperReading and dipping with the occasional skittering. I began to the mind map the details. Then I thought that the information I am after for my purpose I don’t need to do a full blown mind map.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? : The Meta–Programs themselves. The questions to elicit the meta-program types.

The Future : Since I’ve had my brush up with the link system. I’m thinking about how best to memorise/remember the many meta-programs, elicitation questions and types. I beginning to think many things are not implemented or used because we don’t remember what to do or ask. NLP certainly contains many questions and techniques. People don’t use certain techniques or questions because they don’t remember them or are afraid they’ll get the question structure wrong. Once the questions are memorised, a confidence comes with using the language pattern or technique. I’ll describe in a later post how I’ve done it.

Learning to Remember the Eyes

I’m a big fan of accelerated learning. It and you have so much potential. I’ve been playing and using accelerated learning for many, many years. One of the techniques of memory that I use is the link system. This is where you associate one item and link/hook/combine it to another, thus remembering the first.

For whatever reason, I always seem to get muddled with NLP eyes accessing cues and the position of the eyes and the internal dialog direction. This is when you look at a person and they are talking to themselves, many people move their eyes down and to their left.

On the train, I thought to myself oh come on, let’s remember this. I thought about it for a moment, then it struck me. Look at a person, holding a telephone to their ear. How many people hold the telephone between their head and left shoulder and talk?? That was my link!! So now when I think about the position of the eye accessing cue for internal dialogue, I’m on the telephone.

The other thing that struck me is why, do you have all the tools and techniques at your disposal, yet not use them?

PhotoReading - Day 6 - Brain Gym for Business: Instant Brain Boosters

Day : Day 6

Time : 0900

Location : Train

Trigger Words : 15

Title : Brain Gym for Business: Instant Brain Boosters for On-The-Job Success by Gail E. Dennison

Thoughts on Process : It very much helps that this is a rather thin book with many pictures. As I was beginning to feel tired from PhotoReading, activating the information and blogging all in the same day. So to have a shorter book was a god send. Nevertheless another book done.

Time Spent activating and how : I just SuperRead and dipped this book for about 15 minutes if that on the train. This was a very easy and quick book to dip in and out of. It had much more of what I was after, exercises, than day 5.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? : Various exercises that you can do quickly and quietly whilst moving about an office. I found going up and down the lift is a useful place, or the basement of the building. Although how others will react when they see me doing the elephant I don’t know.

The Future : Why not, for 7 minutes a day, see book for a 7 minute tune up.It will move me away from a desk and computer, so must be good. In addition I thought what would happen if I do the movements before I was about to play in a game of sport or another activity.

Side Note, I asked somebody today, who I consider to read alot, how many books do you think you read in a year. There response was not as many as I use to or should. Maybe about 20. Here is I, going through 30 books in 30 days. If only I had thought to really put the PhotoReading System into practice at school or university. The next few days good be interesting as I’m on a course for both days…As some of my friends sing out, you can do it, you can do it.

PhotoReading - Day 5 - Smart Moves by Carla Hannaford

Day : Day 5

Time : 0500

Location : Home

Trigger Words : 26

Title : Smart Moves: Why Learning Is Not All In The Head by Carla Hannaford

Purpose : Purpose now seems to be getting easier and easier. Or maybe I know why I am reading all the books, that I am.

Prepare and Preview: Preparing and entering the accelerated learning state is now quite easy. I seem to be sleeping better on the whole, which is a huge improvement for me. Previewing is quite easy too. I’ve begun to have preview pattern that I follow.

Thoughts on Process : After I realized I was SuperReading and dipping the entire book, just for the sake of SuperReading and dipping. The book actually seemed to come together much easier and at 5am too. Today I was out of the office and not too sure what time and state I might be in when I normally activate my books. Doing this process at 5am wasn’t something that I had planned, but I used the time to get it done.

Time Spent activating and how : Activation was about 1hr. Again SuperReading and Dipping. I began mind mapping. Yet I began to think why am I doing this mind map? The book is full of research, whilst interesting it wasn’t applicable to my purpose. Eventually I stopped. Actually in the book, only about 3 chapters where of any interest and use to my original purpose.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? : From the book I can take not so much of the content, although this was good and interesting. It was the realization that with a well defined purpose for each book, you don’t need to read all the book.

The Future : With this book I now have several exercises to do over the next few days, weeks and months. I don’t know what the future holds, yet many people seem to have had many positive effects from doing Brain Gym. A few minutes a day is surely worthy of my time.

PhotoReading - Day 4 - The 4 Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

Day : Day 4

Time : 0800/2030

Location : Train/Home

Trigger Words : 22

Title : Timothy Ferris – The 4–Hour Workweek

Purpose : Well, I would think the ultimate purpose would be pretty easy to guess? Here in lies an irony. Yes, whilst collecting trigger words and PhotoReading, my overriding purpose was to implement the ideas into my life. To create what your learn is the DEAL lifestyle. Yet as I was SuperReading and dipping. I kept questioning my purpose. What is the ultimate application of this information? Is it to apply the information or the obtaining of want I want through using the skills and techniques presented.

Prepare and Preview: Preparing was easy after yesterday. I relaxed wonderfully. The preview was quick and easy. Although I did read the acknowledgments, forward and scanned the final chapter, which I don’t normally do. Or perhaps I was more conscious of it this time.

Thoughts on Process : This is a book I’ve been really excited to get my teeth into every since I ordered my copy. It holds great promise. Will I and how easy will it be to implement? At this moment in time I’m not based in the US. It appears very US centric. Since I got my copy I seem to have dipped in and out, flipped pages, just waiting to do the PRWMS on it. Although the prepare and preview went well. The PhotoReading itself, I kept noticing I would tense up my shoulders. When this happened I Noticed it , breathed and carried on.

Time Spent activating and how : I began activating this book (SuperReading and Dipping and Mind Mapping) on the train to work. This was a great use of my time. My mind map was becoming quite detailed. I made many notes of page numbers instead of specific details and words since Tim poses a lot of questions for you to answer and work through. For future reference, just the Q&As could form a separate mind map. There are several parts to the book that need answers. This wouldn’t form an ‘official’ part of activation. Or at least I don’t think. Yet, it would be more spontaneous as I’m just searching for the questions on various pages, yet you never know what may jump out at you. At home, gee wish. I began to get really tired. I think I also over SuperRead and dipped. Yet as mention previously Tim does ask you many questions to get you thinking. Certain sections of the book I was conscious of saying to myself I’m tired. Yet the final section on travel I whizzed through. Total time spent on activating the entire book, answering some of the shorter questions, 3 hours 40.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? : Answer the questions and do the exercises. I’m going to email Tim as I’ve various questions, that I’d appreciate his opinion on. Plus, I’ll get his auto–response email which I can look at to see how he has laid it all out. I’ve already implemented his email strategy for my personal and one work email accounts. I’ve not told anybody I only check them twice a day and nobody seems to have noticed. Cutting them down even further should be quite easy. I’ve even begun to monitor a ‘critical’ work email account. Again nobody seems to have noticed. I wonder how far I can take this one? I also have done the first day of Tim’s eye starring challenge. Basically, you look at people and stare at them until they avert their gaze. I’ve had to lock my head sometimes as to not move it. Yet, very quickly it becomes easier and easier. Some of the other challenges I’m not so sure. Push that comfort zone…

The Future : Since, I myself have come back from traveling. I went away for a year, last year. I know much of what Tim says is already possible since, I’ve done it too. I now again have itchy feet to travel. I need to implement parts of Tim’s strategy more thoroughly or at all. Once I have that going, many other things (current job) become superfluous. The question really is how important is it too me? Tim’s questions within the book to be answered. Perhaps that is the next month’s blog postings…Tim’s Challenge – 30 days to a DEAL life?

Side note…I went to my local library today and I think for the first time every, any book I picked up I immediately said to myself What is my purpose?

PhotoReading - Day 3 - Teach Yourself Blogging

Day : Day 3

Time : 22:00

Location : Home

Trigger Words : 22

Title : Teach Yourself Blogging

Purpose : This was to continue the work from yesterday. What could this book teach me that Day 2 had not? More HTML Code?

Prepare and Preview: I didn’t use the long relaxation process for this one. If is funny because I awoke up this morning, (I attempt to preview and PhotoRead the night before activation) and said to myself I need to use the tape. I’d had too much internal chatter going on, whilst preparing and previewing. I need to do it again. Work, very nicely conspired against me. Yet, everything happens for a positive reason.

Thoughts on Process : To get myself into state for activation. I used a take on the Dave Elman Induction . I closed my eyes and said to myself. Get to a point where your muscles around the eyes won’t work. A few moments or so later. They didn’t. Then I said OK, I’m going to open my eyes 3 times and with each time I open my eyes, I’m going to double my relaxation throughout my whole body. Yet, I’ll be able to activate the book just fine. This seemed to go really well. PhotoFlipping is easier with worn books. Always 1. Prepare the spine, or 2. Get copies from your local library. Page turning is easier.

Time Spent activating and how : I had allowed myself a time of 30 minutes. I got everything I needed within 15. I opened the book and scanned the table of contents and I said, what do I really need? In the end I Super Read and mind mapped information from 6 chapters only. I often find this particular brand of Teach Yourself..really uncomfortable, staid and quite frankly dull. Yet, within 15 minutes. I had the information that I needed. Happy Days.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? : These are things that I’ve learnt. I can add and alter to my blog. Blog via Email. Currently I use an off-line client . Various settings within Blogger, that I should investigate and more than likely implement. Although it did leave me with one question, how to implement a tips jar within Blogger.

The Future : Hopefully a cleaner, more proficient blog for you and me. I’m still working on how to automate more tasks that I seem to do consistently.

PhotoReading and Spontaneous Activation ? - An Aha moment

Whilst Driving along in my car and listening to some recordings of Dave Elman . This acts as a spontaneous activation ie. It isn’t learning that I am doing manually via Super Reading and Dipping or another technique.

Dave was taking about compounding of suggestions. Then it hit me. Compounding is actually what happens on your way to reaching a goal.

ie

  1. Suggestion 1 – Decide on your goal

  2. Take some action towards your goal

  3. Take another action towards your goal.

The theory being that. Initial you start out with a goal (1). Then you take some action (2). Due to you taking action (2), you are saying to yourself, “compounding” (1), your goal. Therefore when you take more action (3). You reinforce your action from (2) and (1). So many, many actions later.how many times have you reinforced (1), your goal?

Oh how easy are goals? Therefore the thing to think about is what prevents you from going from step 1. Goal Formation to step (2). Taking the first action and then subsequent action steps(3) ?

Too excited to Sleep - PhotoReading Side Effect?

After day 2 of my PhotoReading experience. I spent much time writing up my posts and creating ‘templates’ to make recording of details much easier. I attempted to go to sleep. Well I couldn’t. My brain was racing with blog and PhotoReading ideas. PhotoReading ideas I’m sure shall pop up over the next month. Is this a positive side effect of PhotoReading, an over active mind?

Relaxation

I attempted various methods of relaxation. Nothing was happening. My mind was off..I even did some exercise. In the end I thought right that is it. I grabbed a piece of paper and pen and scribbled down all my thoughts. I noticed there was a great physical release of energy and tension within myself.

I’ve heard of this technique before. I’ll be experimenting with this no doubt over the coming months,as I’m a great one for waking up in the middle of the night and ‘thinking’.

PhotoReading - Day 2 - The Rough Guide to Blogging

Day : Day 2

Time : 19:30

Location : Home

Title : Rough Guide to Blogging

Trigger Words : 16

Purpose : Again I used the 4 questions posed by day 1. In addition since I’m blogging. I’ve got how to questions that I don’t know the answer to. ie how to I automate as much of blog entries and web pages as possible

Prepare and Preview : I actually did this at the end of the day after book 1. This allowed a longer period of incubation ie a complete sleep cycle. Nothing to report from my dreams.

Thoughts on Process and Activation : Again needed to drink water. The book itself wasn’t that large so manual activation only took about 15 minutes. I’ve complied a small mind mind, more for reference and practice than anything else. I’d be playing with my blog through out the day and currently am experiencing issues with html code. Not something I’ve every had to do before. For whatever reason, I just wasn’t understanding what I was reading. Well whilst Super Reading and dipping I went into a section on HTML and there I read about the challenge I was having. Reading the code made perfect sense, yet during the day. I’d just not seen what I was looking at.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? : OK, so maybe in my life is a little dramatic. Nevertheless it is some urls. I’ve submitted the site url to Google and Yahoo. Found some sites and applications that I want to check out. Learnt the HTML for how to have a link open into a new window and understood about the image tag and placement.

The Future : The learning of and how to blog in the short term shall be an organic process. Yet some great learns that I can easily apply as I go alone. Now how to automate? Happy Travels

PhotoReading - Day 1 - Hypnotherapy by Dave Elman

Day : Day 1

Time : 20:00

Location : At Home

Trigger Words : 25 – My trigger words are just what attracts me in the book and then I go to the index and wherever there is a word with many entries. If I don’t already have it down I add it.

Title : Hypnotherapy - Dave Elman

Purpose : Purpose. This is perhaps the most crucial step in the whole of the PRWMS. Without a purpose, why are you reading? I had multiple purposes for this book. Since I have to know the contents for an exam. Activation of this material shall be on going since it will be referenced throughout my course.

Perhaps the best way to get started attempting to find your real purpose is to ask yourself the questions posed by the course

  1. What is your ultimate application of this material?

  2. How important is this information to me in the long run? Is it important or worthwhile to me?

  3. What specifically do I need to know? What do I want to remember? An overview of specifics?

  4. How much time am I willing to comment RIGHT now?

I’ve heard about purpose many times? Yet it never really has sunk in. This time is did. Just answering the above questions really gave me many of ‘my’ reasons to read the book. Each section of the process you should reassess your purpose. Really usefully after finding trigger words. Has a word of section sparked your curiosity?

Prepare : I’m pretty good at putting myself into a relaxed state, although I still listened to the tape to put me in state. That way I cut out external noise and could really relax.

Preview : This is a ‘brief’ overview for your mind to the book. Is there something that really attracts you? Does it alter your purpose or create a question that you want answered?

Thoughts on Process : NOPS is really important. I keep reminding myself of this each time some negative or non important thought or chatter come into my head. I find water is really important to me as I begin to flip the pages. I have to have a drink before I begin. There is something about the process that makes me want to drink water. If I have internal talking whilst turning the pages I seem to grab several pages at a time.

My first Photo flipping session I make sure I have the book upside down and back to front. That way I tend not to focus on the words of a page. In addition Paul Scheele (PS), says that is what he does, so it can’t be too bad a way to do it. I don’t see the blip page, I never have done. I just focus on the white spaces around the edges of the text and attempt to keep my focus on one point in the centre of the two pages.

Time Spent activating and how : I spent in total 3 hours activating the book manually. This is much quicker than I would have spent even reading normally. I think if I was to read normally it would take me 5 or maybe more hours. I had questions that I needed answering. This I was lucky. I’ve been given questions from past exam papers, so theses were perfect questions to find answers for or mind probing. I also had some questions that I wanted answered for my own curiosity. I then Super Read and dipped the whole book and mind mapped (several large sheets) the details that I read. I’ll need to tidy them up before posing on line. This in addition acts shall act as a subsequent review of the material and maybe spark another question.

Some sections of the book I could have skipped, they just weren’t interesting to my current purpose. Yet I did go through the chapters and sections. I guess to test my gut feeling. The final chapter of the book is a list of FAQs. I stopped and said what is the one question that will have the most impact for me right now. My eyes fell on a question and answer that indeed I was curious about.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? : This for me was quite simple and at the same time startling. Within the whole book the thing that struck me was two beliefs to be held by a hypnotherapist. Or indeed anybody.

  1. This must work.

  2. I know this is going to work.
This struck me because if you hold this to be true about anything. I know that whatever you hold as such will manifest itself within your life.

Another thing that struck me was the idea of ‘locking your mind around an idea’. This was Dave Elman discussing the idea that if you get your client to lock their mind around an idea, anything is possible. He was talking in reference to anesthesia. Yet I thought, if you can and quickly get yourself to lock your mind around a positive idea, to the point where you believe it is true. 1. How quickly are you able to create this pervasive belief? 2.Can you teach others to do so? This has really sparked my curiosity. Another time and post, I think. Since there are belief patterns in NLP.

The Future : This will be rather interesting since, I am on a course about hypnosis and I know the lead instructor adores Dave Elman, there is a great opportunity for spontaneous activation and review. In addition I’ve some audio recordings of Dave to listen to. I wonder what shall happen?

That’s the first book…done. Well done if you’re read all the above.

To Read or Not to Read? 30 Days of Photoreading

I'm sure many or you have heard of PhotoReading. It is something I have heard of and I've even had the Home Study course for a very, very long time. Longer than I care to remember. In fact I've "PhotoRead" several books, yet never made the process part of my daily life. Thus, I feel I've never really experienced the reported full benefits of the PhotoReading Whole Mind System (PRWMS). If you want to know more on PhotoReading go to Learning Strategies or here.

Since I'm embarking on a multitude of directions, with many books to 'read' or at least have an understanding of. I feel now is the time to forge ahead, master and make the PRWMS a part of my daily life.

How many of us have books, we've bought, yet never read? Large PDFs and or eBooks on a computer, that are just stored, awaiting to be read? I’ve got lots and lots! How many of us have been given a book by somebody that is collecting dust on a shelf or two. Well now is the time to do something about it.

My goal is to PhotoRead and manually activate a book a day for the next 30 days. Yes this has been attempted to be done before, SetHigherStandards . In fact that is partial why I started blogging. To record my experiences. Yet Ravi seems to have stopped. Yet thanks to him, I've been introduced to several sites and books that really, really excite me, thanks Ravi! They may eventually be noticed over here in the UK. By which time, I want things to be full steam ahead for me and have things already up and running and taking advantage of opportunities as they present themselves.

PhotoReading for Me

PhotoReading isn't about knowing everything about a book. We don't do that naturally. Even in school. Knowing a book is being able to answers questions about the book content or forming your own questions and or opinions because of a book. If you think you need to know everything that is in a book. Stop and think for a moment about a book that you know well and talk about. Do you remember, know it inside out..100%? You know things that you remember, that are important to you to remember. Another way of thinking about it is describe your favourite film. You remember things that you liked or a quote because it had meaning to you. Not the entire script and backdrop.

In any given book the meaning is only carried within a few percentile of the written material. That is all that you need to know. That can be accomplished much faster with PhotoReading, than currently taught methods. Or that is the claim. I’m here to find that out for myself.

I’ve many smaller purposes ie. To formally preview 30 different books in a month. That in itself will make a big difference to me. I’ve a course reading list to get through. People have recommended books to me that would really help me, that are stacking up on my shelves.

Me the Reader?

Yet, I am not an avid reader. As a child I remember being forced to read out loud. I hated it. Yet most of my family adore reading books. I like reading books, only if the subject matter really matters to ME. Most subject matters don’t. I read very little fiction. I’d rather be told a story. I like to hear a story. Roll on, Harry Potter - The Final . I’ll be there in my car, in another kind of trance! Yet not everybody produces an audio version of their work. I’d like to read all the ‘classics’. Be knowledgeable in my chosen fields. I remember reading somewhere that reading and your vocabulary can have a direct impact on your earning potential, certainly in ‘old school’ work and companies.

Goals

In addition I’ve notice that if I want something, a goal, a dream. I have to do something, a step towards, even little and often to achieve it. When I went travelling recently for a year to various parts of the globe. There were many things to plan and do, if I wanted to make it a reality. Book Flights, injections, accommodation, paperwork. The year was a great success! I’ve now really begun to notice in many of my goals that I achieve, it’s the constant doing of something that has really helped. So now I’m applying that principle of mastering PhotoReading. In addition a ‘public’ declaration of intent is a great motivator to go out and do something!

Could this really be the simplest, easiest, best or most useful diet/weight loss idea?

What I am about to share with you, I should be charging a fortune for. Others seem to, in fact there is a whole worldwide industry dedicated to diets and weight loss.

Well you can have for free.

Everything you want and do happens because of decisions you make. Some of the decisions lead to what you want. Some of them take you away from what you want. It then becomes a decision of choice. Do I or don’t I? Is it important enough to me? Am I prepared to do whatever it takes to achieve what I want?

For many of us the key is actually: it is not important enough to me to make the change. How many of us take out gym membership and don’t go after the fourth week of joining? We come up with a multitude of reasons/effects/excuses as to why we can’t make it to the gym. Simply put, it isn’t important enough to you.

The world’s simplest diet is as follows:

  • Eat less than you currently do.

  • Exercise more than you currently do.

If you do the above you’ll loose weight. No joining fee needed.

I hope....

Carrying on slightly from my last post . I was recently in a hypnosis seminar when I was the ‘client’. I was feeling slightly uneasy about the hypnotist. I couldn’t put my finger on why, I just didn’t feel great.

Low and behold after the ‘session’ he said to me I hope I did OK. I was really nervous. I wanted it to go really well.

That was it…I hope…Hope presupposes that things might not go as you expect. Therefore, many times they don’t. When you are working with somebody. Don’t hope, just do. Muster as much confidence within yourself as you can. ie Remember a time when you where really confident and proceed.

As you think, so many a time it will happen. When working with somebody I hold inside my head 3 things I learnt from John Overdurf and Julie Silverthorn

  • You’re a great hypnotic subject.

  • You have all the resources inside of you.

  • You can change timely and easily.
Holding these these things in mind I have found really helps my own confidence and levels of working. If you hold on the those or those that suit your purpose, you don’t have time for hopes, you just do.

Only Joking

How often do you jokingly say something? Somebody once told me there is a lot of truth in joking. I’ll tell you what, there sure is.

From my own experience, I was told not to do certain things until I reached a certain point in my life. Always jokingly, yet if you tell a child something enough, even jokingly, the child takes it on board. I tell you, the time I reached that point where I could do something. A weight was lifted of my shoulders. I felt bloody marvelous.

I’ve joked about things, normally to protect myself from fear. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of rejection. Now I’m beginning to wonder what would happen if I had a fear of fear? Therefore, I just didn’t do it anymore.

I was recently watching a hypnotist who had spent time waxing lyrically about how she thinks the best of her clients, that they are all great etc. Then proceeded to ask for a volunteer. The only volunteer was a man who, on the surface, struggled to go into a trance. You could notice that the hypnotist was desperately wanting another volunteer. Not a single other person did.

Then what did she say, This will be difficult, laugh, laugh…Hello, was I the only person to notice the suggestion? Lo and behold she had great difficultly putting the person into a level of trance that she wanted.

The irony being a moment later another person hypnotized the volunteer and he went into one of the deepest trances we’ve every seen him go into, up to this point.

Therefore be aware of your jokes. What do you really mean?

Grab a Granny Brigage...not again

I don’t know about where you live, but where I do, very often I’m faced with the gang I term the ‘grab a granny lot’. These are often students in brightly coloured jackets, holding a clipboard and proudly displaying an id badge. They seem to pick ‘victims’ Excuse me sir, spare a minute at which point you swiftly go NO.

How come they always pick you? Very simply inside your head your saying don’t pick me, feebly. Therefore you’re saying pick me, so they do. Next time you see the grab a granny brigade. Stop, readjust yourself. Put on a attitude and say with feeling inside your head, come on then pick me…walk with a purpose…low and behold they don’t try and stop you. What else do you say inside your head, that manifests itself, even though you say don’t. How are you saying it to yourself?

What's your Job Title?

Recently whilst talking to a friend of mine, we began discussing what do we now and in the future call ourselves? Hypnotists, NLPer, Course Director, Founder?

I’ve been unfortunate to be on the phone to random job recruiters or as they call themselves now, in my neck of the woods…IT Consultants. If they are IT consultants, then I am a Professor of IT at Cambridge.

This has begun to make me think, should I call myself a hypnotist? Maybe you have not noticed, but once you say I’m a hypnotist, it normally goes one of two ways…wow..or the person stands back, stutters and quickly moves on. The wows are great. The stand backers aren’t so good. This can only be because of fear and/or ignorance, I think. Part of me inst’ happy about calling my myself a hypnotist as a singular job title. One there are many ‘negative’ connotations with hypnosis and hypnotists and more importantly I’m so much more than that!

Researching amongst the bigger guns of NLP and Hypnosis world. Director and founder seem very popular. I personally am beginning to like the title Professor of Possibilities. Although would that fit on a business card?

So what do you want your job title to be?

In the Beginning...

So, why blog?

For me it is very simple. I’m at a point in my current career, where another change is very much on the cards. I’m really enjoy NLP and hypnosis among many other things. This is what gets me up in the morning, every morning. Good day, not so good day. I read the books, listen to the tapes and wonder…really wonder, what if.

So having spent the last year travelling around the world and meeting some truly wonderful people, it is about time I ‘worked’ doing something that I really enjoy. I enjoy what I am currently doing, IT. Yet it just doesn’t get me up in the morning. NLP, hypnosis et al. Do!

Career Change

Currently, I am attending a very in depth course on hypnosis, based in London, UK. Afterwards I plan to start my own private practice and build a successful business.

There are many gifted people doing NLP and hypnosis already. Yet reading web sites and blogs etc. None seem to have detailed their learnings, feedback on things that didn’t go so well etc. They all seem to think they are experts. Starting a new business just happened effortlessly. Maybe it does. That is what we are all here to find out. I’ve several business formats I wish to apply, experiment with to build my own successful company.

First Exposure to the ‘Sciences’

I can remember when and where I was for my first‘formal’ introduced into NLP and hypnosis. I had just scraped through some exams at 18. I thought there has to be an easier way. I read books on memory techniques etc. I read and listened to all I could at the time on accelerated learning. In a book by Colin Rose. There were a few sentences on a technology called NLP and spelling strategy.. That was it I was off.
