How To Make 2009 Extra-Ordinary

All,

I've been reading and re-reading the following TUT message that I received a while back.

2009, will not be just another year.

It's the absolute richest I've ever imagined, with the most possibilities I've ever created, for the coolest people I've ever known, to do the greatest things that have ever been done.

Don't feel any pressure.

Let's do this,
The Universe

Just imagine that!! There is something about this that I can't quite put my finger on yet. All I know is that I like it! Rock on 2009.

Reframe : Finite or INFinite

All,

According to Google the word infinite means

Definitions of infinite on the Web:

    * having no limits or boundaries in time or space or extent or magnitude; "the infinite ingenuity of man"; "infinite wealth"
    * of verbs; having neither person nor number nor mood (as a participle or gerund or infinitive); "infinite verb form"
    * countless: too numerous to be counted; "incalculable riches"; "countless hours"; "an infinite number of reasons"; "innumerable difficulties"; "the multitudinous seas"; "myriad stars"; "untold thousands"
    * space: the unlimited expanse in which everything is located; "they tested his ability to locate objects in space"; "the boundless regions of the infinite"
    * total and all-embracing; "God's infinite wisdom"

Finite is the opposite of the above.

The last few days I've been thinking. For many areas of our lives the only way we can change things that we think are finite is to change...Where? What. The word infinite gives us a massive clue

IN - or more specifically. Within you and me.

Therefore, if we change our IN. Things become infinite. The only thing that places boundaries or limits on things is US.  Thus, change our IN for things to become INFINITE.

Silly Money - Reframe

I just caught myself quietly saying to myself the phrase silly money. It got me thinking I've got some work to do there. Then I thought were does that phrase come from . This I could not find out. I then went to my online etymology dictionary , here and did a search for the word silly. Again it would seem we've missed the original meaning of a word.

It comes from the O.E. gesælig "happy" (related to sæl "happiness"), from W.Gmc. *sæligas (cf. O.N. sæll "happy," Goth. sels "good, kindhearted," O.S. salig, M.Du. salich, O.H.G. salig, Ger. selig "blessed, happy, blissful"), from PIE base *sel- "happy" (cf. Gk. hilaros "gay, cheerful," L. solari "to comfort," salvus "whole, safe").

It now means weak and foolish. I am beginning to think it is us who are weak and foolish, not those of past generations

Stinking Rich - Reframe

All,

I heard this phrase over the weekend. Stinking Rich . That got me thinking where does it come from? Have again forgot the meaning.

A quick look at www.etymonline.com suggests we may have.

Originally O.E. stincan "emit a smell of any kind" (class III strong verb; past tense stonc), from W.Gmc. *stenkwanan (cf. O.S. stincan, O.H.G. stinkan, Du. stinken), from the root of stench. O.E. swote stincan "to smell sweet," . So smelling of much was (and still is!) a good thing.

Although I found an excellent idea or theory on a webpage of the word detective:

I'd like to know the meaning behind the phrase "stinking rich." I was told several years ago (while touring a church in Belgium) that it came from the fact that poor people were buried outside the church. The rich were interred inside, in crypts, and when someone in their family died and was to be buried, the stone was rolled away and there was an awful smell -- hence the term "stinking rich." True or false?

Money Doesn't Grow On Trees - Reframe

This I can't take credit for I heard this excellent reframe from James Ray. I thought I'd share it with you because it blew me away and still does when I think about it.

Take out the largest monetary note from your wallet or pocket. Note because the value is higher than a coin. Look at it.

What is it predominately made of?

Answer - Paper

Where does paper come from?

Answer - Bark

Where does bark come from?

Answer - Trees

Therefore money really does grow on trees!

The reaction when I tell this to people is really interesting...try it and see.

All Rich People Are Greedy - Reframe

Further to my last post, here . I beginning to think many of our common phrases, beliefs and attitudes are actually misunderstandings, deletions (something is missing i.e. information) and generalisations. So many of us, myself included at times, don't question or want to alter these generalisations, attitudes or beliefs because we don't want to rock the boat or appear different from those around us. Which is great and fantastic if you want to be ordinary. What if like me you want to be extra-ordinary? Is it not those around that often keep us where we are?

I was thinking what is another term, phrase or belief I often hear or I suppose even think in the area of money, wealth and abundance. Those without money tend to make sweeping generalisations about those that do, which then often hold those lacking back from what we actually want, because for us, even though we may want something, it has a negative energy, emotion or hold over us.

According to the On line Etymology Dictionary Greedy means

O.E. grædig "voracious," also "covetous," from P.Gmc. *grædagaz (cf. O.S. gradag, O.N. graðr "greed, hunger"), from base *græduz (cf. Goth. gredus "hunger," O.E. grædum "eagerly"), cognate with Skt. grdh "to be greedy." In Gk., the word was philargyros, lit. "money-loving." Greed is 1609 back-formation. A Ger. word for it is habsüchtig, from haben "to have" + sucht "sickness, disease," with sense tending toward "passion for."

Therefore are we to hate rich people because they are money-loving (how does the phrase money-loving make you feel? ) They have a hunger for money? Or do we not like it because they have a passion for money?

If you have a passion for something or someone, do you not want to do that thing or be with that passion as much as possible? We like to do the things or be around the people we have a passion for. By virtue of having a passion for something or someone, you also attract more of that. Why? because that is what you are thinking of and putting your energy into for much of the time.

Simply put, yet so powerfully and elegantly. You get what you focus on!

Therefore the larger question is how do I/you develop a passion for money? Or anything for that matter. If you have a passion for one thing in your life, then surely you know you can 'do' passion. By this I mean, what if we apply the same, structure, thought patterns, words and actions etc to another area, will we then by copying or modelling develop a 'passion' for something else.

When it comes down to it, rich people aren't greedy, all rich people are passionate about money. If you're aren't passionate about money, do you think that maybe why you don't have as much as you want?

I hear the word mini-series...How to develop a passion for money.

Filthy Rich - Reframe

I've noticed recently I've alot of negative self talk going on inside my head. This I'm correcting when I catch myself.

I've just heard a story where somebody described another person as filthy rich. For some reason this I caught and heard. It got me thinking. I don't want to hold this belief or attitude. How else can I hold it or thinking about it. Time to reframe it.

Reframing is taking a word and its meaning or context and changing either or both.

Initially I thought filthy rich...????

Then I thought actually all rich, filthy or otherwise are very clean. Those that I know drive nice clean cars, have nice clean clothes. Nothing filthy about it! So that was a good start.

Then I did what I often do..go look for the origin of a word. Words fascinate me. Meanings often get lost. Words, statements and beliefs all become 'old wives tales'. So much of which is true yet lost at the same time.

A quick look at the etymology of the word filth revealed. The following, there are many definitions.

One of which was as follows:

lucre

c.1380, from L. lucrum "gain, profit," from PIE base *lu-/*leu- (cf. Gk. apo-lanein "to enjoy," Goth. launs, Ger. lohn "wages, reward," and possibly Skt. lotam, lotram "booty"). Filthy lucre (Tit. i:11) is Tyndale's rendering of Gk. aischron kerdos.

From this I therefore took the following to be filthy rich is actually to to gain or to profit. Today when we profit or gain, it is often in the form of money, thus it is a wage or reward for work we have done, which surely is to be enjoyed!

So, being filthy rich is just enjoying the fruits of what you have done. Thus the question is do you hate or dislike rich people?

Is it because you actually aren't getting the rewards and thus the enjoyment from what you are doing.

So, here is to being filthy rich because it is my gain and reward for the work I've done. Now I'm off to enjoy myself.

Happy Travels.

Procrastination

All,

I thought this might be appropriate for me. Given the lack of updates in the last few weeks.

Procrastination :
1548, from L. procrastinationem "a putting off," noun of action from procrastinare "put off till tomorrow," from pro- "forward" + crastinus "belonging to tomorrow," from cras "tomorrow," of unknown origin. Procrastinate is recorded from 1588

I've recently learnt or taken to heart that procrastination is actually fear. Fear of a result that I don't want. That I think will or might happen. I sometimes worry over the small detail, instead of focusing on the bigger picture. Why complete 95% of the work, when I can focus, pontificate, think about...ie not do anything or stop working because of the other 5%?

Then I remembered FEAR is just False Evidence Appearing Real. Once I started moving again on my projects and focusing on the end result : cheques and travel. The other details (5%) have just fitted into place or actually didn't matter as much any more as I could for now get around it. As somebody recently re told me again and again and again....just do it!

We've all been there. I always remember being in school and not completing an essay on time. I panicked, what would the teacher say or do. It was never as bad as I imagined.

To that I say..yes, although in my head that 5% seems so huge, a block that must be beaten or overcome. Which when working on all the other 95% is very quickly and easily done so.

So here is to beaches, cheques and pina coladaes....although maybe not in that order.

My advice to you is. Focus on the end result. When all is said and done just do it..Yes, that does take courage, a leap of faith, but then again, you want your end result right? Some people will say but you're not me, you just don't understand. I'm different. So be it. Stay where you are, it means there is even more space for me at the top.

4HWW - News = Beliefs You Must Think The Opposite Of

I just caught a little news this morning...ugh.. The main reason I am finding not to listen to the news if nothing else is quite simply. This is one of the easiest ways for you not to take on the beliefs of what society thinks is possible or correct. I heard a 'stocks and shares' expect say

Over the next 4 months things are going to be really tough. Given the number of people that watch this morning show, GMTV... (5,000,000)how many will have a financially difficult next 4 months? He was referring to interest rates, prices of X,Y,Z. Mortgages etc. Soon people will start coming down with flu and colds because we are told it is the flu season. Yet, if you jump on a plane and go to Australia..no flu, yet same month of year.

Therefore. If the majority of people are believing the above. Of course they will struggle. Thus, think the opposite and you'll get the opposite results. Yet how do you do that? Dare to think differently.

I've just reread my last post and there is something I just noticed. If I've written this what was I thinking of?

we are all infallible to new systems and ways of working. I'm not filling my void.

Who Wants The Best Cinema In The World?

We all posses the greatest results mechanism in the world...Us! Yes, that thing that daydreams on a daily basis, sends us off to far places. This is how to begin getting what you want.

See the END result. By that I mean. Imagine you have the best cinema screen inside your head. You are sitting in the most comfortable chair, eating pop corn etc. You see yourself on the large cinema screen doing, getting, having exactly what you want. The END result. I find it helps if you See the Result, Feel the Result, Hear the Result.

An Example

Supposing you want a house..I already have my car!

See yourself standing in the house? See - What is the flooring made of? .What colour are the walls? How big are the windows? What about the dining room. How many chairs? Is there anybody else there with you? Are you throwing a dinner party. What is the food you are eating? How big is your smile?

Feel - What does it feel like to have this house? If you want you can step into yourself and really get the feelings. I do this and then step out of my self and see myself again. What does it feel like to watch television, on that top of the range flat screen television? What does it feel like when you open the door and your mate is there and you feel great, because you are about to show him your house? What does super happiness feel like?

Audio - What does the music sound like from your top of the range sound system that you have installed? What is that sound coming from the perfect roast you have just lifted from your oven? What about the laughter from yourself and friends?

Me A Supercharger - It Is A 3 Way Thing

I have found the following really useful. Once or twice a day go over the above imagery of the end result of your goal.

Get some paper, some photographs, pictures of the end result. Put them all together. Hang the poster up somewhere you will see it everyday. Even on holidays. - Feel as you make it and gather the pictures, you should get really excited doing this. Hell you don't need a poster a diary works just as well, as does PC wallpaper. Some of you may know this as vision board.

Write about your goal as if you have already achieved it. Write it with a date and in the present tense i.e. I have... I feel.. I am.

Not only are you getting excited about what you want, you'll be doing multiple things in all you senses to achieve your goals. In the peripheral vision your mind will see what you want and work out ways for you to get what you want.

Where Is My Goal?

If your goal hasn't come about just yet. I find the following has helped me. Is the end result something that I really want? Not, friends, family..ME If yes..

It is on its way. You are just being tested as it is just around the corner waiting for you. Do you really want the goal?

Do you feel good when thinking about your end results? If so you are on the right track to getting what you want.

If the above seems like to much work....welcome to boredom and not getting what you want. It just isn't that important to you.

PhotoReading - Day 21- Lets Learn Japanese

Dear All,

I am back in the land of the living. Not great being off. Anyway. I've finally booked my ticket for Japan. I am there in 3 months. After my frustration at not speaking much German in Germany. I thought I'd make amends and learn some Japanese.

I have 3 months to learn some basic Japanese. I've got several books to PhotoRead daily. I am activating by skimming and flicking through the books daily and noticing what I notice. Looking up words that interest me.

Berlitz Japanese for Travellers

English Japanese Dictionary

In addition I am using my car journey to and from work to listen to

the Pimsleur Language Course This will activate the language in another format. If you think about it, this is really a good way to activate since most language people use in a day is spoken, so surely you should activate in that way too? Lets just hope you don't see me talking to myself as I drive along the road.

If anybody has any ideas on what I should see or do, please drop me a line. I'm thinking yes Tokyo, Mount Fuji, I want to spend some time in a Ryokan and Onsen. If I can I'd also like to visit Kyoto. I'd like to watch some bunraku theatre. That on top of catching up with some really missed friends. Now where are my chopsticks?

PhotoReading - The journey so far.

Dear All,

I sit here with a cheeky beer reflecting on the past days and what I've achieved so far.

PhotoReading holds much promise, yet I do wonder am I PhotoReading the book or skimming the book? Then again I don't want to go back and try the old/normal style of reading that I and most of us do. I don't have the time or inclination.

I've, to my knowledge had no direct learning experiences yet. I've looked at or read more books than I would every normally do in a year, let alone a month. It has only been 15 days, 15 books officially. Not to include emails, magazines and wet sites etc. How much practise did you do in order to be able to walk or talk? PhotoReading is easy in comparison. We've already done the hardest learning we'll ever have to do in our life by the time we are 7 or 8. Despite what teachers and schooling may tell us. Most exams don't actually matter in the real world.

I've noticed that I am sleeping better ie. I may only wake up once during the night and normally not too early. Very often before I would wake up several times in the night and at silly hours ie 4,5, or 6am. Getting into state is good. This constantly relaxation effort can only be a good thing for myself and my body.

When presented with books and book lists, I have begun to get excited. "I can PhotoRead these". I should get more book suggestions this weekend. Previewing a book is one of the greatest skills I have learnt and reinforced so far to date. PRing books from a library or well thumbed are easier when doing the photoreading step of the PRWMS. I've read all types of books, except fiction. In a variety of locations and times.

Moving forward, I am asking myself for an undeniable experience of PhotoReading success. Yet what is that? I am just wondering how I could test myself or prove to myself that it is working. Although this may put added pressure on me, I want concrete proof that the system is working, or I am doing it right...or just an aha moment.

Anybody wish to test me..recommend a book? How or where to go from here? I suppose you would have to ask yourself, how long would it normally take you to read book X and gain the information that you want from it. After all, PhotoReading isn't about photographic recall of a book and its material. It is getting the information and comprehension that you want in the time you have available, as they say.

PhotoReading - Day 12- Uncommon Therapy by Jay Hayley

Day : Day 12

Time : 11:00

Location : Germany

Trigger Words : some

Title : Jay Hayley - Uncommon Therapy

Well what can I say. This was the worst PhotoReading session I have had so far. This is a book on my course reading list and yet I just could not, did not want to read it. I prepared, although not that successfully. Previewed, PhotoRead the book. Yet SuperReading and dipping was terrible. I kept asking myself am I PhotoReading, or just skimming. How will I know the difference? I gave myself an hour to activate the book and yet kept looking at the clock for my time to finish. In the end I just gave up. I wasn't enjoying the process or even motivated to do so. I felt uncomfortable, I just could not get 'into' the book.

Was it because of my purpose not being specific enough, or the fact I was in a new location, physically? Not taking the time and effort that I normally do to complete a book? Therefore the best thing for me to do was to stop. Or was that the easy way out. Am I being tested..do I really want to learn this skill?

The last few days before my travels I've been PhotoReading the German Dictionary. I'm curious to notice what happens. Will I be able to speak and or understand German any better than I do now? What is my purpose for PRing the dictionary, what is my ultimate application?

PhotoReading - Day 11- Geisha by Lesley Downer

Day : Day 11

Time : 1100

Location : Travelling - Aeroplane and Dresden

Trigger Words : 20

Title : Geisha - Lesley Downer

Purpose : I'm off to Japan later in the year, so along with learning some of the language, I thought I'd better read more than just a guide book or two..

Prepare and Preview: This was done in an airport lounge, with much adrenalin running as about I was about to catch a plane to Germany.

Thoughts on Process : I just blanked everybody out of my mind as I flipped the pages. There is so much going on in a airport lounge, people just don't notice another traveller. Although sometimes I am questioning, am I applying the PRWMS or just scanning pages?

Time Spent activating and how : I SuperRead and dipped the book for ages and ages. Not only was this the longest/larges book to date, was in English and Japanese. There was so much to take in. I was very drained by the end of the whole reading, yet. happy as this was a huge accomplishment. I think all in all I activated the book for some 5 hours. In the past the size of book would have put me off from even picking it up.

What is the one thing from the book that I can use right now in my life? October, October, October. That is when I'm off to Japan. The book is a look at a fast disappearing area of Japanese culture. Yet it is truly a great piece of work. Now on to learning the language.

The Future : A book of this size and complexity, should be read over several days. In fact there was much information, I'll never read again or even need to know. Despite that, I'm glad I activated the whole book. Being able to activate such a long book, was quite an accomplishment. Just don't ask me to mind map it.

Side Note : Back from Dresden, so I'll be writing up the other books that I've PhotoRead over the last week, when I can.

Towards The Papterless Office and the A of Automation

All,

In my day to day current job I use Lotus Notes as a email system. Although Lotus Notes is NOT JUST email. A great misconception amongst so many people, especially in IT circles. Anyway, I stumbled upon a new site by Eric Mack this morning. He is a great fan of the GTD philosophy. Although I've looked into GTD in the past and not implemented. Until recently it was always very Outlook Centric. Yet not everybody uses Outlook as an email system. That is all Outlook is, email. Although many will argue it is a PIM system, so it Lotus Notes.

Bygones. Erick Mack for a long time has been applying the GTD philosophy to Lotus Notes. Today he wrote about the paperless office. If only. However it got me thinking about business and and the A of Tim Ferriss acronym DEAL or DELA depending on whether you're an employer or employee. Since I am very keen to look further into this system of work and apply as much as I can. After all, I've begun to get itchy feet again and want to go off travelling. Surely a paperless office would help? After all a business isn't so much about the product or service, it is about the systems. It is often said to many people work in the business not on the business.

As as side note next week I'm off to Dresden next week. I'll still be PhotoReading , although posting may not be every day. Although I'll be finding books to PhotoReading and note. In addition I've already found the 100 Germany words to learn. This is mentioned in Tim Ferriss' book . If you want to find the 100 most common words in some languages, try here for a start, a Tony Buzan book. I will detail how it has all gone in a future post.

I hope....

Carrying on slightly from my last post . I was recently in a hypnosis seminar when I was the ‘client’. I was feeling slightly uneasy about the hypnotist. I couldn’t put my finger on why, I just didn’t feel great.

Low and behold after the ‘session’ he said to me I hope I did OK. I was really nervous. I wanted it to go really well.

That was it…I hope…Hope presupposes that things might not go as you expect. Therefore, many times they don’t. When you are working with somebody. Don’t hope, just do. Muster as much confidence within yourself as you can. ie Remember a time when you where really confident and proceed.

As you think, so many a time it will happen. When working with somebody I hold inside my head 3 things I learnt from John Overdurf and Julie Silverthorn

  • You’re a great hypnotic subject.

  • You have all the resources inside of you.

  • You can change timely and easily.
Holding these these things in mind I have found really helps my own confidence and levels of working. If you hold on the those or those that suit your purpose, you don’t have time for hopes, you just do.

Only Joking

How often do you jokingly say something? Somebody once told me there is a lot of truth in joking. I’ll tell you what, there sure is.

From my own experience, I was told not to do certain things until I reached a certain point in my life. Always jokingly, yet if you tell a child something enough, even jokingly, the child takes it on board. I tell you, the time I reached that point where I could do something. A weight was lifted of my shoulders. I felt bloody marvelous.

I’ve joked about things, normally to protect myself from fear. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of rejection. Now I’m beginning to wonder what would happen if I had a fear of fear? Therefore, I just didn’t do it anymore.

I was recently watching a hypnotist who had spent time waxing lyrically about how she thinks the best of her clients, that they are all great etc. Then proceeded to ask for a volunteer. The only volunteer was a man who, on the surface, struggled to go into a trance. You could notice that the hypnotist was desperately wanting another volunteer. Not a single other person did.

Then what did she say, This will be difficult, laugh, laugh…Hello, was I the only person to notice the suggestion? Lo and behold she had great difficultly putting the person into a level of trance that she wanted.

The irony being a moment later another person hypnotized the volunteer and he went into one of the deepest trances we’ve every seen him go into, up to this point.

Therefore be aware of your jokes. What do you really mean?
